Michael, Mark, Joe, Lucy, and Mary go to school together. They love school and like to compete. Every day, they learn something new. They really enjoy school.

A big race is coming. All the first graders will join. It will be a sack race. The kids practise as much as they can. They want to win.


Race day is here. There’s another class, and they are loud. It’s hard to concentrate.

As Mark starts, someone yells in his ear. Mark wears a hearing aid, so he starts the race later than everyone else.


Is it okay to shout at others during a race?

The kids try hard to catch up. They have to hop fast in their sacks and be quick. The kids are determined. They focus on running fast and want to win. Winning is very important to them.


Is winning the most important thing?

They catch up with the other kids. But then, at the last moment, Michael trips and falls. He can’t catch up, and the other team wins.


Joe, the team captain, has to decide what to do.
