First day at school following summer vacations. Classmates are back together and talk about their summer. Students in the classroom already know each other from last year. They are all good friends. Isabelle is from the Caribbean. It is her first day at the school. Isabelle’s appearance and characteristics are typical of a Caribbean.

Isabelle had many friends in her country. Now she has none. This has been very hard for her and misses her friends.

Isabelle is excited to meet new friends. She is also anxious because she feels different. She wonders if it will be easy to make new friends.

The teacher asks students to split up in teams of 4 to play a game.

Isabelle joins a team of students and has trouble communicating. Students continue to play the game leaving on the side. Isabelle struggles to fit in and be part of the team.

Should the team have encouraged Isabelle to join the game?

Isabelle described to her mother the first day of school. Her mother decided to organise a party for her birthday on Friday and to invite all her classmates. Together they created colourful invitations for Isabelle to give to her classmates.

Isabelle’s classmates get their party invitations. During the school break, they vote on whether to attend. It’s a tie, and your vote will decide if the class goes or not.

Do you vote to attend Isabelle’s party?
