Hi, my name is Luca and I am 6 years old. Today is a special day at our school because a new classmate has arrived. His name is Giovanni. He is sitting alone at the back of the class and looks a little sad.
During recess, I see Giovanni watching the children play. He can't join in. I go to him. I ask if he wants to play with us and I smile and make some gestures. Giovanni smiles and says yes. But some of my classmates make rude comments because he is deaf.
How do you think Giovanni feels sitting alone?
I decided to help Giovanni. Every time someone makes a rude comment, I tell my classmates to be nice. I try to include everyone in our games, but it is not easy. I start learning some Sign Language to talk better with Giovanni.
How do you think Giovanni feels when he sees that someone tries to learn sign language?
One day, while we are playing, a group of children comes over. One of them makes a rude comment about Giovanni. I turn to them and decide to stand up for my friend.
