Liam is a 6-year-old boy. He loves playing in the park near his home. Today, he sees something strange. The big tree in the middle of the park is marked with red paint. Liam looks worried. "Why is there red paint on the tree?" he wonders.
Liam sees a group of kids playing near the tree. He asks his friend, Amina, "Do you know why the tree has red paint?" Amina, who has curly black hair, says, "I heard they might cut it down." Liam feels sad. The tree is his favourite place to play, and birds have nests there too!
Liam and Amina talk to the other kids. "We need to save the tree," Liam says. "But what can we do?" asks Amina. Liam thinks for a moment. "We can ask our neighbours to help!" The other kids agree, and they start knocking on doors. Liam tells the neighbours why the tree is important. Some neighbours smile and say they will help, but others don’t seem to care.
Liam, Amina, and the kids gather under the tree. They hold up signs that say, "Save the Tree!" More people from the neighbourhood come to help, including adults. But then, a man with a saw walks up. "I have to cut this tree down," he says.
