Amira is six years old. She lives in a small house with her mom and baby brother. Today is a big day! Amira’s going to the park with her new bicycle. Her mom found it next to a rubbish bin, and they fixed it together. But Amira feels a bit worried. What if the other kids at the park don’t like her bike?

At the park, Amira sees children playing. Some kids have shiny new bikes. Amira parks her bike by a bench and watches them. She feels shy and wonders if anyone will ask her to join.

How do you think Amira feels when she sees the other kids with newer bikes?

One of the kids, Sofia, rides up to Amira. "Do you want to race with us?" Sofia asks, smiling. Amira smiles back but hesitates. "My bike isn’t as new as yours." Sofia looks at Amira’s bike and says, "It’s not about the bike; it’s about having fun together!" Amira feels better and starts pedalling next to Sofia.

How does Amira feel when Sofia invites her to play?

As they ride, a boy named Leo joins the group. He looks at Amira’s bike and laughs. "Your bike looks old! Why don’t you get a better one?" Amira feels sad. She looks down at her bike, unsure what to say. Sofia stops her bike and says, "It doesn’t matter what the bike looks like. Amira rides just as fast as us!"
