Lily was excited for the new school year. She couldn't wait to see her friends and share summer stories. While talking and laughing, she saw a girl by the entrance. The girl was holding her backpack, she looked nervous.

Lily, curious, approached the unknown girl. The girl's eyes scanned the busy schoolyard. She was nervous. Lily felt sorry for her. Lily remembered how scared she was on her first day of school. How lonely she felt, surrounded by strangers. Lily paused, she didn’t know what to say or do. She recalled her classmates' welcome on the first day. Then, smiling, she approached the girl and offered her hand.


The girl introduced herself as Sarah, her voice was soft and unsure. Lily could sense how nervous she was, and she decided to make Sarah feel welcome and included. Lily and Sarah entered the classroom together. Lily talked about their teachers and subjects. Meanwhile, Sarah simply listened, a small smile on her face. Seeing Sarah relaxed made Lily happy. She had helped a new friend feel more at ease.

Lily felt bad. She couldn't stand the thought of Sarah being lonely. So, she decided to help. Gathering her courage, she walked over to Sarah's table, smiling warmly. "Hey, Sarah! Do you mind if I join you?" she asked politely.

Sarah's eyes widened in surprise. She nodded and with a shy expression, she moved aside to make room for Lily. As they ate lunch, Lily asked Sarah about her hobbies. She wanted to learn more about her new friend.
